The Crossing PLAC is a LGBTQIA + Ally Youth and Family Community Group serving the people in and around Parker County.
With monthly meet ups led by background checked volunteers, who strive to curate a secure uplifting environment. With a goal of facilitating a common ground space to meet and gather in unity where youth and their families can do life together.
Mission And Focus of The Crossing PLAC:
Our organization is committed to supporting LGBTQIA+ youth, aged 12-18, by providing them with the essential tools and resources they need to lead authentic lives. We address the unique challenges they encounter at home, schools, and in their communities.
Program Offerings:
Through year-round, free programming, we aim to achieve the following objectives:
Decrease High-Risk Behaviors: We work to reduce high-risk behaviors commonly associated with LGBTQIA+ youth, creating a safer environment for them to thrive.
Reduce Social Isolation: By offering a supportive community, we combat the social isolation that LGBTQIA+ teens often experience.
Boost Self-Esteem: We empower youth to develop a strong sense of self-worth and confidence.
Key Program Components:
Peer Support and Connection: Our programs facilitate open dialogue among youth, enabling them to express their emotions, seek advice, and build connections with peers who share similar experiences. Thus reinforcing that they are not alone in their struggles.
Diverse Group Topics: We cover a wide range of topics including; coming out, establishing healthy boundaries in relationships, addressing family related issues, improving school experiences, enhancing communication skills, fostering self-love, and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health discussions.
Mental Health Support: We equip youth with the skills to talk about mental health, providing them with the knowledge to seek help for themselves or friends who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts.
